Overall purpose of the job

Reporting to the Director/Chief Executive, the incumbent will give strategic direction to the finance function of the School by way of introducing new financial procedures while strengthening existing ones. It will also give accurate periodic budgets and reports that reflect the true financial position of the School.

 Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

  1. Possess an MBA in financial management or equivalent  and be professionally qualified to CPA, ACCA, or equivalent levels;
  2. Have at least 10 years experience at senior management level in a busy finance department;
  3. Have proven staff management skills;
  4. Be computer literate with experience in word processing, spreadsheets; presentations, and at least one  accounting software;
  5. Be a team player with the ability to lead change;
  6. Be proactive and efficient with a keen eye for detail;
  7. Have the ability to gather, analyze, and evaluate information and to prepare and present concise oral and written reports;
  8. Have good customer care and public relations skills;
  9. Have the ability to work under minimal supervision.

Reporting to the Procurement Manager the incumbent will assist in the general management of the Procurement and disposal process in the School.

  1. Possess a minimum of LLB degree of at least upper second class or equivalent from a recognized university;
  2. Possess professional qualifications in law i.e. be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
  3. Have served for a minimum of 5 years as an academic in a legal training or educational institution or as a practicing advocate;
  4. Have the ability to conduct legal training at a practical level;
  5. Possess excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare and present concise oral and written reports;
  6. Have good Information Communication Technology skills.

Promoting the right to health in Kenya

Accountant

Health Rights Advocacy Forum (HERAF) is a national non governmental organisation that brings together health professionals, NGOs, FBOs and PLWHA organizations to advocate for health as a fundamental human right in Kenya. This position is a one year contract based in Nairobi reporting to the Coordinator with possibility of extension.

Purpose of the Position
The overall responsibility of this position is to perform accounting duties including budgeting, book-keeping, auditing and preparation of financial reports and administrative duties including IT support.

Key Responsibilities

1. Perform monthly and annual income and expenditure reports
2. Ensure that the overall accounts practices of the projects are consistent with the organisation's and donor's accounting policies and procedures.
3. Prepare and monitor overall expenditures against budgets, match budgets against approved budget line items and assist project staff in the monitoring actual expenses against the budget.
4. Process monthly payroll and remit all statutory deductions.
5. Over see the management of petty cash.
6. Facilitate all payments to suppliers
7. Ensure the communication systems are working and are in good condition.
8. Facilitate quarterly information back ups.
9. Ensure fixed asset register is accurately updated, maintain a record of equipments in the possession of each staff member and ensure that all HERAF's assets are insured.
10. Monitor office equipments to ensure they are in good working condition..

Qualifications, skills and competencies
This position requires:
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree and holder of CPA III.
  • Demonstrate capabilities in accounting and budgeting procedures.
  • Good communication, interpersonal skills with an ability to work and meet targets within specified timeframes.
  • Experience in working with a computerized accounting system.
  • Cope with demanding work situations.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience at a similar position in an NGO.
Other Competencies
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili
  • Excellent computer skills.
